BriefFlow notifies you when something happens on a task you're involved in — as the owner, an assignee, or a participant — both in-app and by email.
What generates a notification
- Task events — you're assigned, a task's status changes, it's marked blocked, or its release changes.
- Understanding events — your understanding is approved, clarification is requested on it, or it becomes outdated because the task's brief changed.
- QA events — QA starts on a task you're involved in, changes are requested, or it passes.
- Release events — a release you have tasks in is released or cancelled.
- Comment events — someone comments on a task you own or are assigned to (you're never notified of your own comment).
You're never notified about your own actions — only about things other people do that affect you.
In-app notifications
The bell icon in the application header shows your unread count. Opening it shows your most recent notifications; the full Notifications page shows everything, with All and Unread views. Clicking a notification marks it read and takes you straight to the relevant part of the task, understanding, QA, or release it's about.
Email notifications
Notification emails mirror the in-app event, with a link back into BriefFlow — they don't include sensitive detail like another assignee's full written understanding or full QA evidence; that stays in the app itself.
Email preference
You can turn off email notifications for task activity in your profile without affecting in-app notifications, which always continue. This is separate from account-lifecycle emails like invitations and password resets, which aren't affected by this setting.
